The literal translation of the word matador is 'killer'. Julian Noble (Pierce Brosnan) prefers to call himself a 'facilitator of fatalities'. A trip to Mexico City throws Julian, a pompous, self-indulgent professional assassin, together with Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear), a strait-laced, affable family man from Denver. The comic potential of this odd couple pairing flourishes in this darkest of comedies by combining ribald dialogue with subversive wit. Brosnan is skilfully funny, gruffly handsome and deliciously sleazy in what can only be described as a self-parody.
