In 1999 the New York City Police mistakenly killed an innocent African immigrant, Amadou Diallo in a hail of 41 bullets. Jesse Thyne was an American Peace Corps volunteer who lived with Diallo's family in Guinea at the time – a year later he died in a horrific road accident caused by a negligent taxi driver. Both deaths caused a public outcry and both personal tragedies were co-opted by those campaigning for a wider social cause. Death of Two Sons diligently reclaims the lives of the real people to powerful effect and examines the strange ways in which their fates were intertwined.
