Accompanied with live improvised music from the Leeds-based Inecto School, this beautifully Bolshevik, highly influential early Soviet sci-fi film is set in Moscow and on Mars – the first film to explore the solar system beyond the moon. Los meets Aelita, the daughter of a totalitarian Martian dictator, in his dreams. She watches him with a telescope and, almost telepathically, Los obsesses about being watched by her and travels to Mars with a revolutionary. On arrival they are imprisoned and begin a proletarian uprising which Aelita offers to lead. Then Los discovers what has really happened...
