This infinitely poetic film is dedicated to the many forms that love can take – not least love for yourself. Dunia's mother was a bellydancer 'of ill repute', and Dunia's free spirited quest to find her own sense of love and sensuality leads her to the very same people who danced with her mother. She learns that the true expression of love needs freedom from the repressive and patriarchal elements of the culture she lives in, where erotic texts are banned, outspoken academics physically attacked, and girls genitally mutilated. Features some wonderful Arabic music and dance and a brilliant lead performance.
