Grain in Ear is a beautiful, uncompromising drama about the struggles of Cui, a Chinese Korean Woman raising her son on the margins of society during her husband's incarceration in prison. She battles bureaucratic obstacles to sell homemade kimchi on the roadside and has to use all her resilience and guile to survive. But after an affair with a married man, things soon get out of control. Director Zhang Lu utilises a slow burning narrative style and a meticulously composed cinematography to make a poignant and distinctive film.
