Beijing Bubbles follows five emerging rock bands from the Chinese capital, still honing their skills and struggling to survive and thrive in the most rapidly developing country in the world. Influenced by English and American punk music, they all translate their influences into a unique new hybrid, but are generally met with bemusement and sometimes hostility in a place without a long history of rebellious popular music. The documentary is both intimate and enlightening about a side of China which has not yet been covered in current news reporting.
