This film might just change your concept of cinema. Lenz is a filmmaker. A manic, hyperactive eccentric torn between states of joyful elation and hideous despair and struggling to cling onto his wife and son, to stop himself slip-sliding away from them into an icy abyss of loneliness and madness. Lenz tries to map his route to happiness amidst the freezing alpine mountains, and we follow him so closely that we are like intruders in his own private world. The line between documentary and fiction is completely snowed over and, somehow, we become both part of Lenz and of the film.
