Black Gold + Talk
City Art Gallery
11th November • 6.30pm
Your coffee will never taste the same again. Black Gold is an incredibly revealing, insightful documentary, building on a simple idea by considering a familiar commodity and giving it a global perspective, highlighting the overwhelming importance of fair trade issues. The film traces the economic disparities of the coffee trade from the struggling farmers in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, to the dealers and stockbrokers, the proliferating multinational chains and their enormous profit margins to your morning cup, taking in gourmet tasting, the world barista championships and the original Starbucks along the way.

There will be a post-screening discussion on trade justice issues with both co-directors of Black Gold, Nick and Marc Francis and Oxfam's Joe Human, who has worked with Ethiopian coffee farmers in the area shown in the film.
