Cross the sensibility of an old fashioned Western with the setting of modern day Liverpool and you have Dead Man's Cards, a stunning debut from director James Marquand. Tom is a boxer who, after being forced into retirement, takes a job at a local nightclub. Meeting fellow doorman Paul, Tom must decide whether to head down the path of righteousness or descend into corruption. With excellent use of widescreen (it's one of the most stylish films of recent years) and a gritty feel, this is a raw and poetic treat.
