L Argent
Hyde Park Picture House
5th November • 3.15pm
Robert Bresson's last film, made when he was 81 is as startlingly original as any of his earlier work. L'Argent is a complex, ideological adaptation of a Tolstoy parable about greed and corruption in which the narrative follows the movement of a counterfeit 500 franc note. Disdaining excessive action and performance, the director focuses on the sensuous details of interaction, the corrupting influence of materialist society and the spiritual release afforded by transgressive acts.
This film is a replacement for Diary of a Country Priest as advertised in the brochure p57.
