New website live and free Guide released on Friday 10th October

Are you ready for the launch of the 22nd Leeds International Film Festival? More than 250 screenings and events await you at venues across Leeds from 4th November when your personal portal opens to the latest from the incredible wonder of worldwide independent filmmaking. On Friday 10th October, the new website goes live and the free, complete Film Festival Guide is available from 4pm at the following venues in the centre of Leeds: The Carriageworks Box Office, Town Hall, Art Gallery, Tourist Information Centre at the train station, and the Film Festival Centre in The Light, and from 5pm at the Hyde Park Picture House.

 

Tickets are on sale from 5pm on Friday 10th October

Passes are on sale now (see below), but from 5pm on Friday 10th October you can buy individual tickets for any film and event throughout the Film Festival. You can buy tickets in person at the City Centre Box Office at The Carriageworks on Millennium Square, or by calling 0113 224 3801, or online here at www.leedsfilm.com.

 

Launch event at The Wardrobe

For the first time, the Film Festival will present an evening launch event with screenings of trailers and some of the many amazing short films, while you can be among the first to get your hands on the free Guide. Taking place as part of Light Night, the Film Festival launch event is free and runs from 7pm to 10pm at The Wardrobe, on St Peter’s Square by the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Screenings of trailers and shorts start from 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm

 

Short Film City announced

For 2008, the Film Festival announces a major new programme dedicated to short films, celebrating the small wonders of world cinema on the city’s big stages. Short Film City will feature over 160 outstanding shorts – most of them UK Premieres - in 25 unique competition programmes and special selections. Running for five days during the Film Festival from the free Opening Gala at Leeds Town Hall on Tuesday 11th November to the Closing Awards Night on Saturday 15th November at The Carriageworks, Short Film City is an essential event for everyone hooked on or new to the short film phenomenon. A pass for the whole of Short Film City is only £25, see below to get yours now.

 

Join our email and postal mailing lists

The best way to find out the latest news, additions of films, or last minute changes, is by joining our email list – send us an email with subject ‘subscribe’ to filmfestival@leeds.gov.uk. If you want to get your free Guide in the post, send your name and full postal address to the same email, but please note that delivery of the Guide may take up to five working days.

 

Volunteer and get free tickets

If you’re free between 4th and 16th November, and have a passion for world cinema, then you could be part of the Film Festival team of volunteers and receive benefits such as free tickets, a t-shirt and party invites. If you’re interested click here to download the volunteer application form and return it with a passport photo to corinne.orton@leeds.gov.uk before 20th October.

Passes and special event tickets on sale now

New! Day of the Dead Passes now on sale

The Film Festival’s Fanomenon programme is full of exclusives and UK Premieres, all to be announced on Friday 10th October. Night of the Dead on 15th November is selling fast (see below), and now you can be the first to get your hands on the best seats in the house at the Day of the Dead at the City Varieties on 8th November. An unmissable celebration of some of the best horror filmmaking of the moment in a historic setting, Day of the Dead II features two great British debuts, a Japanese startler, a surprise movie, and the most talked about, most harrowing horror of the year, plus terrific short films and prize. A pass for Day of the Dead is £20 full price and £16 concession. Individual tickets for each of the five screenings are available from Friday 10th October – passes offer savings of £10 and £6.50 respectively for all five films, and ensure the best seats all day.

New! Short Film City Passes now on sale

The Film Festival’s major new programme section dedicated to short films launches this year (see news item above) and you can now buy a pass for just £25. There are 25 short film programmes to chose from, ranging in prices from £3.50 to £6 – if you select just ten of them to see you can save between £10 and £35. The Short Film City Pass also includes entry to the Closing Awards Night and Party. Please note if you buy a full Film Festival Pass (see below), the Short Film City pass is included.

Get your Single or Double Film Festival Passes before the price rises!

Be amongst the first to purchase the hugely popular Film Festival Pass which provides unlimited access to every individual screening*, with over 250 to chose from. Our special Early Bird offer means you can get your single pass for the incredible low price of £70.00. The Double Film Festival Pass allows two people to purchase a pass each at the same time for £120, saving £20, meaning you and a friend can enjoy the full Film Festival experience for only £60.00 each. Both offers are available until 5pm on Monday 3rd November when the price for a single pass rises to £85, for a double to £150. *The only exclusions to the use of the pass are: Night of the Dead, Day of the Dead, John Foxx – The Quiet Man, and the Thought Bubble Comic Convention.

Tickets for the legendary Night of the Dead are available now! For just £20.00 full price ( £16.00 concession) you can book a seat to the UK's greatest and bloodiest all-night horror event. Make sure you purchase your tickets fast as this is one event that is guaranteed to sell out. Night of the Dead VIII takes place on Saturday 15 November at the Hyde Park Picture House and full programme details will be announced on Friday 10th October.

Tickets for Back to the Electric Palace now on sale

Film that shaped American cinema accompanied live by specially commissioned new music. Five rarely screened American shorts reflect the ferment of invention in Cinema’s earliest years from the first organised crime film by the godfather of narrative cinema, DW Griffith, heavily influential on Martin Scorsese, to a bizarre, part-animated reinvention of the Goldilocks fairytale inspired by a ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt anecdote. Composer Gabriel Prokofiev curates original soundtracks from five exciting contemporary composers performed live. Back to the Electric Palace takes place on Friday 14th November, 8.45pm at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds. Ticket £9 (£7 concession).

Tickets for John Foxx - The Quiet Man now on sale

Electronic music pioneer and former Ultravox! frontman John Foxx will be returning to the Film Festival for a third year with the UK premiere of a brand new show combining music and images. John will be performing sections from his on-going Quiet Man novel in the Victoria Hall, Leeds at 21:00 on Friday the 7th of November, 2008. Tickets £10 (£8 concession).

Passes and exhibitor tables available for Thought Bubble now!

Thought Bubble celebrates the vast universe of comics and graphic novels. Featuring special screenings, panel discussions and workshops, Thought Bubble includes a massive comic book convention on Saturday 15 November 2008 at the huge Saviles Hall in Leeds. With a host of special guests visiting Leeds from all over the world this promises to be an unmissable event for all comic book fans.
