Hara's outspoken and brilliantly stylised debut feature puts a group of adults with cerebral palsy centre stage. They organise street protests and demand attention from a Japanese society that has traditionally ignored the rights of disabled people, often shamefully confining them to family homes. The style is deliberately ragged and jarring with twitching, low level camera shots in grainy black and white and out of sync sound used to jolt the audience's attention and replicate the point of view of the film's energetic, frustrated protagonists.
