Screen Yorkshire is at the forefront of support for new talent and this free showcase of their latest digital short projects is testament to the depth and variety of filmmaking in this region. Eight films are presented including inventive fiction and animation: Animal Crackers, The Projectionist, Where Aeroplanes Go to Die, The Girl at Death's Door, King Ponce, Moth to a Flame, Ellabellapumpanella, and Amaz-o-bra.

Animal Crackers

A moving story about a simple minded man and his search for his dead father, explored through his imagination and fascination with the animal world


The Projectionist
Dir: June Gersten-Roberts, Wri: Richard Shaw, Prod: Michelle Eastwood

Every night after finishing work in the cinema, James goes to the attic window and looks into the apartment of a striking red-haired woman. He is mesmerised by her. He is compelled to photograph her but instead of capturing a snapshot of reality he is taken into a fantasy world in which the past begins to encroach on the present

Where Aeroplanes Go To Die

Once a high flier with everything going for her, Angela has found herself at a crossroads in her life. The passion has gone out of her marriage. There is no romance, just an all consuming baby and a husband who doesn't notice her anymore. Angela is dying inside. In an attempt to recreate the woman she was she takes a moonlit car ride with the man of her dreams

The Girl at Death's Door

An encyclopaedia salesman calls at a house in the woods. The door is answered by the little girl who is home alone. She lets him in, unaware that he is a serial killer. Meanwhile, a deadly wolf is prowling around the house and the girl herself has something to hide

King Ponce
Dir: Samuel Donovan, Wri: Clare Perry, Prod: Rob Speranza

King Ponce is a film about teenage masculinity and group acceptance. Robbo has a passion for ballroom dancing but, being the new kid at school, he doesn't want anyone to find out, especially not Gaz and his gang, with whom he's beginning to gain a coveted acceptance. Does Robbo have the confidence to stand up to the potential social consequences, or will he forever be labelled a 'ponce'?

Moth to a Flame
Dir: Kevin Tams, Wri: John Hunter, Prod: Kathryn Penny

Thomas, a dying man, suffers nightmarish visions of moths. Alone and afraid, he overhears the plight of the woman next door, abused by her boyfriend, and gradually overcomes his fears to try and intervene.

Ellabellapumpanella
Dir/Prod: Madani Younis

An animated documentary which explores the creative mind of Ella Wright, drawing upon inspiration from Piet Mondrain Paul Klee and Samuel Beckett.


Amaz-o-bra
Dir: Rozi Fuller, Wri: Anna Zaluczkowska, Prod: Kathryn Penny

The bra that can solve all your problems. Young Karen, athgletic Juliet and old Doris all believe it will work miracles – it does but not in the way they expect. Are boobs that important in the war of the sexes?
