A bizarre musical road movie, Build a Ship, Sail to Sadness is in turns, hilarious and heart-rending. Deluded romantic Vincent (Magnus Aronson, also the musician and screenwriter) rides his moped around the Highlands of Scotland, approaching anyone who will listen to his ideas. It is his ambition to build a mobile disco to combat loneliness. The film is shot with an oddly stylised aesthetic using a cheap video camera that renders the barren, snowy landscapes as beautiful and dreamlike as the fragile electro-pop tunes on the soundtrack.
