A ground-breaking film about a young mother forced into marriage at 11 and now in a Yemeni women's prison. Accused of murdering her husband by an outrageously unjust and misogynistic judicial system, she awaits execution. Filmed by a Yemeni woman who was herself forced into marriage at 11, this is not only documentary filmmaking at its best, it is activism - this outstanding and very special film led to Amina's case being reassessed. Verdict to be announced after the screening. An unbelievable achievement.
Love and Words
Dir. Sylvie Ballyot
France, 2007, 44 mins
UK Premiere
The exquisite Love And Words is not the film Sylvie Ballyot set out to make when she went to the Yemen, because she wasn’t allowed to film what she intended to. Instead, she improvised this really powerful and touching film about Yemeni women, love, and lesbianism. Please note that Love and Words will only be screening with Amina on Saturday 10th November at 7pm.
