This extraordinary document of living history is the latest film from Hungarian artist Péter Forgács (El Perro Negro) who has developed a unique filmmaking style using home movie footage to tell intimate stories that unfold against the sweep of 20th Century European history. Miss Universe 1929 traces the life story of Austrian beauty queen Lisl Goldarbeiter and her devoted cousin and amateur filmmaker Marci Tenczer. Lisl grew up in Vienna in modest circumstances, went on to become an international beauty queen courted by Hollywood until the rise of Hitler's Germany changed everything.
