The latest from veteran Californian documentarian Les Blank (Burden of Dreams, Gap-Toothed Woman) is an enlightening exploration of the culture of tea-making and cultivation in China. He and his co-director Gina Leibrecht follow the pioneering American importer David Lee Hoffman who travels deep into the rural backwaters seeking the superior organic teas made from ancient plants by master tea-makers with generations of expertise. Interspersed with tales of British botanist Robert Fortune's tea gathering adventures in the 1840s, tea tasting rituals and testimony from eccentric experts and impresarios.
A tea tasting session of high grade imported Chinese tea follows the screening on Wednesday 14th at the Art Gallery, courtesy of Imperial Teas, Lincoln.
