Zombies in Love

Thursday 27 March from 1pm on Millennium Square, Leeds City Centre
This Easter to launch Leeds Young People's Film Festival, we worked with Breeze to celebrate the completion of Breeze's film "Zombies In Love" and ave people the opportunity to be involved in trying to break the Guinness World Record TM for the largest Zombie gathering!
The gathering will took place on Millennium Square in the City Centre from 1pm and hundreds and hundreds of zombies of all ages turned up to join in the fun including zombie brides, zombie schoolchildren and even a zombie dog!!!
Sadly we didn't break the record, although nearly 700 zombies turned up - however this didn't stop us having a great time and a gerat start to the Film Festival.
Congratulations to our competition winners, especially Scary Mary - the young zombie who impressed us all with her zombie walk. Thanks to Breeze and Travelling Man, Leeds' premiere comic, fantasy and role-playing store for suppling the prizes, to the make-up artists who helped us all look suitably undead and to Jip and Adam for compering the day and keeping the zombies entertained.
Finally a big thank you to all the people who turned up in make up and costume to make the day so enjoyable - here's to the next attempt when we may break the record!!!

FAQs
What is a zombie?
A zombie is a dead person that is brought back to life through a curse or a mutation.
They are a bit silly and have little reasoning power, though many can perform "remembered behaviours" from their mortal existence, like the ability to walk.
Zombies are talked about in ancient folklore but more recently, zombie films have exposed new theories according to which man-made viruses or genetic experiments are held responsible for the creation of zombies.
What is a zombie gathering?
A zombie gathering is simply a collection of Zombies. In order to beat the Guinness World Record TM, we have to beat the existing record of 1100 zombies who must all be in one place for at least 15 minutes. Some adjudicators will be there on the day to make sure we're doing things right, so you will need to sign a register to say you where there.
Do I have to come along already made up as a zombie?
Yes, otherwise we won't be able to get you all through to the 'gathering' in time! You don't need to do much to look like a zombie and it doesn't have to cost loads either.
How can I make myself look like a zombie?
To 'qualify' as a zombie, you need to be wearing zombie make-up. You can also dress up too but you don't have to. If you are going to wear make up that you haven't worn before, make sure you do an allergy test and if you are going to be cutting up clothing etc, make sure you have an adult to help you.
How can I help out with the Zombie gathering?
Tell your friends and family and get as many people as you can to come down to Millennium Square for 1pm on Thursday 27 March
HOW TO LOOK YOUR WORST
Zombie Make Up Ideas:
You can use ordinary make-up or you can buy specially designed face paint from a fancy dress shop (see list of some of the shops in Leeds below)
White make up or foundation
Black eyeliner or eye shadow
Green eye shadow
Red lipstick to look like blood (you can also buy fake blood)
To Get The Look
Basically you can't really go wrong, you just need to look really awful and scary!
Apply a mix of foundation with white-and-green face paint, then use dark eye shadow to create sunken eyes and cheekbones – see the pictures of Zombies In Love to help you!

Zombie Costume Ideas
Again, all you need to do is look terrible, so almost any old ripped and scruffy clothing will do.
1. First of all, decide on a base outfit – zombies come in all shapes, sizes - it can be anything, anyone can become a zombie!
2. Cut it with scissors and rough it up a bit
3. Face make up – don't forget to mess up your hair
4. Now for the final touches, you can start limping, slouch to one side, keep your head bent on the side and grunt a lot.
Here are some places where you might be able to get stuff like make up or old clothing and even props!
Charity shops are the best places to go for your costume – they have some great things that don't cost much and what you do spend goes to a good cause. Here are the details of some but there are lots of other charity shops in the City Centre or maybe you can find one nearer to where you live.
