Document Differently!

Union Mash-Up, Hull, 24th August, 7.30pm

Document Differently is a selection of some of the most unusual and entertaining recent work in animated documentary, this programme includes commissions by established filmmakers alongside fresh ideas from students and recent graduates.

Documentary is a theme which has long-existed in independent animation, but it’s only in recent years that it has become more widely known through successful cinema releases such as Waltz with Bashir and Persepolis.

Animation sets documentary free of some of the baggage of implied objectivity that comes with live action. Presenting an overtly subjective take on a subject or experience, animated documentary can show us dreams, memories, and moments or events which cannot or could not be filmed…

In this programme, stories of sunny holidays, tales of political violence and scenes from long, dark nights, bring us personal testimony and reflection, experiences to be preserved for future generations, and metamorphic musings of a more experimental nature. In each film there is something to be said, something to experience and something to remember. Curated by Alys Scott-Hawkins from Animated Documentary.
