The extraordinary story a Romanian gypsy village and its alarming transformation after the arrival of ‘Borat’. In Sasha Baron Cohen’s comedy blockbuster the inhabitants are portrayed as backward people from Kazhakstan. The people laugh in good faith although they do not speak any English and on the film’s release, the press descends on the village and suspicion and jealousy reign, compounded by the arrival of an American lawyer pledging to represent the villagers in a $30 million lawsuit against the film company.
