The eagerly-awaited new anime adventure from Makoto Shinkai, director of the much-admired 5 Centimetres Per Second. Asuna is a young girl who has been forced to grow up fast after the death of her father. While walking home one evening she is attacked by a strange, fearsome monster. A mysterious boy called Shun rescues her using the power of a crystal from an underground world called Agartha. The two quickly become friends, but then – just as quickly – Shun disappears. Shinkai’s most ambitious film yet is grand in scope, spanning different worlds with beautiful and lavish visuals.

Unfortunately the film had to be cancelled because no one knew how to use the projector properly.
Bit of a disappointment & a wasted evening.
Even more disappointing is the fact that the staff there refused to issue us with a refund for our tickets. It’s simply a matter of putting our tickets in the till & returning our money- but apparently they don’t know how to do that?
In any case if anyone knows how we can get our money back the information would be much appreciated.
Our venue coordinators at satellite venues (such as Vue) do not have the capabilities or the authorisation to issue refunds. All refunds and exchanges are required to be processed through the City Centre Box Office which is open 10am – 6pm,… Monday – Saturday. Unfortunately as The Carriageworks as a building was open our volunteers wrongly assumed that the Box Office would also be open, this was corrected when the Film Festival team arrived at the venue following notification of the screening issue. If you wish to discuss details of the screening further you can contact the Leeds Film office on 0113 247 8398.
A simple ‘sorry’ would help. As the original poster states, this was a completely wasted evening, wasted time (both going to the cinema and the subsequent trek into town the next day to get a refund), wasted bus fare (again, once to go to the cinema and again the next day to collect refund).
The staff at the box office didn’t really seem that bothered and couldn’t even issue the 24p booking fee incurred from booking online. They didn’t even seem that bothered when I asked if there was the possibility of any sort of compensation (free ticket for another event etc).
All in all quite a sorry state of affairs; I would write to the events organiser but in today’s Britain the customer always comes last so not a lot of good it would do.
Just make sure the projectionist knows how to display subtitles on Saturday at Hyde Park Cinema or I will be boycotting the event next year.
Can you confirm whether there will be subtitles tomorrow? This is the kind of thing you need in your news section.
I had a pass so didn’t expect a refund, but I can corroborate the comments above about staff. This year everyone seems very uptight, only the volunteers on the doors keeping the spirit of the thing alive. What gives?
