A dynamic new approach to political drama, Flowers of Evil brilliantly utilises internet footage of the Iranian election protests in 2009 to underpin a youthful Parisian love story in troubled times. Anahita, a young woman from Tehran’s high society is sent to Paris by her parents during political unrest in their home town. She meets and falls in love with Gecko, the bellhop at her hotel, a street dancer and apolitical free spirit whose carefree western attitudes are challenged by his new lover’s very real anxieties about her homeland. Introduction by Sanaz Raji, research scholar at the Institute of Communication Studies, University of Leeds and specialist in Visual cultures of Iran and the Iranian diaspora.
