Unsatisfied housewife Izumi, Professor of Literature Mitsuko, and police detective Kazuko offset the banality of their everyday lives with secret and not-so-secret sexual misadventures. Empowerment and misanthropy go hand-in-hand as the details of their affairs are brought to the surface, and a gruesome murder links their fates. With this risqué, noir-esque film, director Sion Sono (Love Exposure) presents a story based on a true-life crime, offering his trademark view on the darker side of society. Sono treats the story as a pretext to plunge into the very core of an individual, to his or her secret and hidden recesses.
