The late Krzysztof Kieslowski and the co-writer of many of the great man’s films, Krzysztof Piesiewicz, planned a trilogy of films loosely based on Dante’s Divine Comedy. Other directors have tackled this material after Kieslowski’s untimely death with mixed results, but Bosnian director Danis Tanovic did an excellent job with Hell, the intense story of three sisters, estranged and then reconciled by a dark family secret. Presented in partnership with the University of Leeds, Hell will be preceded by a short comparative introduction to the works of Kieslowski and Dante.
