Scrapper uncovers a bizarre subculture in the Californian desert, a community eking out a living illegally collecting scrap from military testing sites. Groups of outlaw survivalists risk life and limb infiltrating lethal impact areas to carry off small mountains of lucrative aluminium bomb casings and brass shells and filmmaker Stephan Wassmann follows them into no man’s land with a camera. Driven by grit and greed, adrenaline and hunger, crystal meth and scripture, these desperados have rewritten society’s rules and turned this bombing range into their own free enterprise zone. Screening with short film Satelite Bolinha, about Brazilian truckers who communicate using an American Navy satellite.
