Closing the Official Selection in considerable style, Shame represents another great feature in the best year for British film in living memory. Steve McQueen consolidates his reputation as one of our most gifted and confident directors, following his extraordinary feature debut Hunger. Shame is a mesmerising character drama boasting a superbly orchestrated soundtrack and cinematography and arguably the best performance to date by actor of the moment, Michael Fassbender. Fassbender plays Brandon, an affluent Manhattan based thirty something who plans his life around relentless sexual encounters and conquests until a visit from his wayward sister forces him to reassess his priorities.
