A lyrical and redemptive tale of southern gothic sensibilities, Ed Gass-Donnelly’s Small Town Murder Songs boasts evocative cinematography, a haunting soundtrack and a soulful central performance by Peter Stormare. Walter is police chief in an Ontario Mennonite community, struggling to keep a lid on simmering local tensions and a violent past that returns to haunt him as he assists the federal authorities in a gruesome murder investigation. When it emerges that an ex-lover is withholding some crucial information, he begins to lose control of his newfound stability and the peaceful community that surrounds it.
