Harold Lloyd saves the last horse-drawn trolley car from extinction in Speedy, his last silent comedy – and one of his best. An engaging caper shot on location in New York, it shows off the city as it was in 1928, including a beautiful sequence at Coney Island’s Luna Park and a breathtaking finale chase through Manhattan. Speedy is showing with Laurel and Hardy’s short, Battle of the Century, which concludes with silent comedy’s biggest ever pie fight. This final reel was discovered in 2015 having been lost for decades. Both films are silent with live accompaniment on piano from Jonathan Best and percussionist Trevor Bartlett.

Get tickets for both City Varieties events Exit Smiling + My Wife’s Relations and Speedy + Battle of the Century in a double bill for just £13 / £10. This special offer is not available online. Please call Box Office on 0113 376 0318 or see them at the City Centre Box Office at Leeds Town Hall.
