Visit Leeds Young Film Festival and Millennium Square in Minecraft!

If like us, you've missed venturing into Leeds city centre and visiting The Carriageworks Theatre, you can immerse yourself in a groundbreaking virtual recreation of the Festival experience as we are thrilled to announce the unveiling of our very own cinema in a Minecraft recreation of Millennium Square.

Working with Adam Clarke from The Common People (aka Wizard Keen from Stampy's Wonderquest) and some Minecraft developers Leeds Millennium Square has been recreated for the festival experience but with some new additions specially created for the festival.

Check out our giant Spider-Man, Woody from Toy Story, Mary Poppins and many other iconic film characters that have been lovingly created using Minecraft blocks and visit the LYFF cinema, where you can view posters of all the films in this year's edition of Leeds Young Film Festival. There's even a cinema auditorium promoting the film festival!

If you are joining from an X-Box you may need to change your settings to access external servers. See the YouTube video here for how to do this.

Accessing the Films

Visit the cinema (where the Carriageworks Theatre would be in real life) and inside you will find the virtual cinema lobby. Every film in the festival is advertised with its poster, some details about the film and a QR code (the funny square barcode like thing). Using a QR Code reader on your phone or device, point it at the QR code and it will take you to the film page on the Leeds Film Player, where you can find out more about the film as well as watching it.

What if I don't have Minecraft?

You can still view the live launch that was recorded on 25 March on our YouTube channel by Wizard Keen.
