Independent Directions Film Festival (the INDIs) returns to venues across Leeds, the birthplace of the moving image, from 20 - 22 July to inspire and help shape the future of the film industry. The only event of its kind in the North of England, curated for 15-30 year olds, includes:

  • Panels and networking opportunities featuring representatives from the British FiIm Institute, Screen Yorkshire, Creative England, Creative Skillset Northern Film School, Into Film, Leeds Film and many more.
  • Film programme at partner venue Hyde Park Picture House including a special preview of Sundance hit The Miseducation of Cameron Post, with 50% of feature films in the 2018 programme directed by women, including archive screenings (Outrage) and brand new documentaries (Roller Dreams)
  • Leeds’ own Kay Mellor plus Emmerdale’s Gaynor Faye and Dominic Brunt on hand to advise on scriptwriting and to judge the INDIs Filmmakers Awards
  • A big screen Fortnite gaming experience and award-winning virtual reality experiences

The festival celebrates and nurtures new talent in independent British and International cinema through film screenings, virtual reality experiences, industry panels, workshops and networking. At the heart of the Festival is the INDIs Awards, championing young and independent filmmakers who are in with a chance of winning up to £750 worth of prizes.

Each of the three days of the festival focuses on a different theme in the film industry: make the move from filmmaking to virtual reality on Friday 20 July with our VR workshops, experiences and panels; get expert feedback on your scripts and writing from talent including Kay Mellor (Fat Friends) on Saturday 21 July; and find out how to get your film seen with our panels on Sunday 22 July.

Weekend passes are just £10 and day passes £5. Screenings and workshop tickets are all £5. View the full programme and get your passes here
