The 27th Leeds International Film Festival programme will launch on Friday 4 October, as part of Light Night in Leeds Town Hall’s magnificent Victoria Hall. The free event will start at 6.30pm and the festival’s free guide will be unveiled after the start of a special, feature length preview of nearly 40 films featuring at this year’s festival. There will be trailers from across each of the festival’s strands, including the best new world cinema in Official Selection; documentaries and music film in Cinema Versa; cult cinema in Fanomenon; a celebration of the outstanding new film talent emerging around the world in Short Film City; and a Retrospective selection giving you a chance to experience some of the best and most rarely seen gems from cinema history on the big screen.
The special preview will last 90 minutes, and will run until 8.00pm, after which we will screen a selection of remarkable short films from the British Film Institute archive. The films are all from cinema’s earliest period pre-1910, providing an entertaining look at how many of today’s film techniques such as the close-up, the cutaway and all sorts of editing tricks were developed. A delightful way to explore the origins of cinema.
We’re also very pleased to announce that the festival is now two days nearer! LIFF27 has moved forward ever-so-slightly and will run from 6-21 November. That’s over two weeks of cinema during November at amazing venues including Everyman, Leeds Town Hall and the Hyde Park Picture House. We already have a selection of excellent confirmations, and the festival team are hard at work putting together the best possible programme of films from around the world to feature in what is the biggest film event in the North. LIFF27’s amazing value passes are on sale now – please click here for more details.
Entry will be free on the night and no tickets are required.
