Leeds International Film Festival Submissions

Now Open for Volunteer Applications + Day of the Dead Exclusive Film

Volunteers required

We are now recruiting for the 25th Anniversary Leeds International Film Festival, the North’s most exciting film event with hundreds of screenings and events over 18 days. We’re looking for confident, reliable and enthusiastic screening volunteers to assist in our venues and help make the Film Festival one of the best audience experiences in the UK, alongside passionate and creative digital volunteers who will create content to be cascaded across our print and online platforms.

Volunteers play an integral role in presenting the Film Festival to our audiences from across the UK and without your help we would not have the success we have today. This year you can play your part in ensuring that LIFF25 is the best event yet, not only in our history but across the North of England.

How to apply:

All applicants must be over 18 years, available for at least eight six-hour shifts within the festival dates, and able to attend the Volunteers training meeting on Monday 24th October from 6pm.

To apply for a volunteer position just download the relevant application form from www.leedsfilm.com/involved and then email the completed application (remembering to attach a photograph to your email) to liffvolunteers@gmail.com before 5pm on Monday 3rd October. The demand for volunteer places is huge, but the number of places is small so ensure that you read our applications carefully and provide us with details of why you should play your part in LIFF25.

If you have any queries please call the Film Festival team on 0113 247 8498.

Cuban zombie exclusive for Fanomenon Day of the Dead at City Varieties

We are proud to announce that we are screening the UK premiere of Cuba’s first ever zombie movie! The highly-anticipated Juan of the Dead will show as part of Fanomenon Day of the Dead on Saturday 12th November at the amazing City Varieties, with the filmmaker and producer in attendance. The crowd-pleasing Juan of the Dead is a unique combination of zombie splatter, social and political comedy, and laid-back Cuban style. Shedding a humorous light on the political and social background of Cuba through the premise of the zombie apocalypse, its UK premiere marks a significant event for Cuban cinema and, not surprisingly, the film has generated a buzz around the world. You can join us for this exclusive screening by buying your ticket for Day of the Dead, seats are going fast! The line-ups for Night of the Dead and Day of the Dead will be announced very soon…

Tickets: £25* / £20* concessions / £15* with a LIFF25 Pass / *Buy for both Night of the Dead & Day of the Dead, save £5 off the combined price

Short film submission – final deadline

The selection of short films is reaching its climax for the 25th anniversary edition of Leeds International Film Festival, 3rd to 20th November 2011. If you have made a short film in the last year, then we can consider your work for one of our programme categories including short films – narrative, documentary and experimental, animated short films, and films made in the Yorkshire region. Leeds organises high-profile competitions for features and short films, all viewed by expert juries. LIFF25 Short Film Entry closes on 9th September: entry is through withoutabox. Entry for features has now closed. Full details of LIFF24 are online at leedsfilm.com.

LIFF25 Questionnaire – thank you for your feedback!

Over the past month hundreds of you completed our online questionnaire and provided us with vital feedback to help us develop this year’s Film Festival. We’re currently working our way through your comments and will be responding by publishing a report of our findings at the end of the month. The overwhelming response meant that many of you entered our competition to win a LIFF25 Single Pass and our lucky winner, Martin Reese was selected at random earlier this week. Congratulations Martin! Thank you to everyone that took part and we hope to see you at this year’s event.
