The Film House on the Square this Summer

Leeds International Film Festival have teamed up with Leeds City Council Events and Sneaky Experience to present a brand new and exciting outdoor cinema experience this summer, set in a specially created, fully seated auditorium in Millennium Square. The Film House on the Square will feature a varied programme of blockbuster films for all ages on the themes of musicals, heroes and sci-fi from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 July, including both matinee and evening performances.

Tickets are available to purchase online, or in person / by telephone from City Centre Box Office in The Carriageworks on Millennium Square (0113 376 0318).

Wednesday 27 July

Grease (PG)
Grease is the word! Calling all T-Birds and Pink Ladies – grab your leather jackets and party dresses, dust off your dancing shoes and get on down to Millennium Square for an open air screening of the fabulous high-school musical, Grease. Singalong with Danny and Sandy, grab an American style burger and ‘shake, get your photo taken in the photobooth and ride the fairground attractions as we transport you back to 1950’s Rydell High for an evening of amazing film-related fun.

Thursday 28 July

Avengers Assemble (12A)
So you wanna be a Superhero? Put on your mask, tie on your cape to reveal your own superpower and come meet your favourite characters, before watching the amazing Avengers Assemble on the big outdoor screen on Millennium Square. Join Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye as they team up to save the planet from destruction in the first Avengers movie. Come dressed as your favourite superhero and you could win a prize for the best costume.

Skyfall (12)
The name’s Bond. James Bond. Get dressed up to enjoy a night out in the company of the nation’s favourite spy – sip on a cocktail, try your luck in our mobile casino or get your photo taken in an iconic Aston Martin. In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is pushed to the limit when the mysterious Silva (Javier Bardem) threatens to destroy MI6 and everything that he holds dear. A combination of nostalgia and modern technology makes this the most exciting Bond film in years and the big screen on Millennium Square is the perfect place to experience it.

Friday 29 July

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (12A)
May the Force be with you. JJ Abrams’ latest Star Wars film is part sequel, part reboot and a rip-roaring, breath-taking experience. Come dressed as your favourite character and get your photo taken with our Stormtroopers and other iconic characters, then sit back and immerse yourself in an amazing outdoor screening of the epic film as Rey and Finn battle the First Order and Kylo Ren as they attempt to get the droid BB-8 to the Resistance. Both screenings will feature dancing Storm Troopers Boogie Storm, Sentinel Squad and a Space Hopper race track.

Sneaky Experience Interactive Experience

To fit in with the themes for Thursday and Friday, Sneaky experience will also be offering special interactive experiences aimed at younger children in the mornings.

Thursday 28 July

Mini-Superheroes, interactive superhero experience
KAPOW! Sneaky Experience are donning masks and capes and swooping into Millennium Square to hold a Mini Superhero morning on Thursday, 28th July. Grab your cape, put your underpants over your trousers and fly into Millennium Square to join forces with Spiderman, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and so many more characters.

Enrol in our Superhero Training School and learn how to defeat the evil baddies. There will be various interactive stage performances with all your favourite Superhero characters. Also on offer, a Superhero-themed children’s activity zone with face painting, mask making, a Superhero photo-booth and general Superhero fun. If you’ve ever wanted to say hello to The Hulk or meet the original caped crusader keep your eyes peeled! Audience members young and old are encouraged to join in with the fun as fancy dress is encouraged.

Friday 29 July

Space Kids – interactive space themed experience
Strap on your space suits, Sneaky Experience are taking you on an interplanetary adventure! Expect specially trained astronauts will be delivering ‘jump for the moon and astronaut agility challenge’. Join in the interactive, space-themed theatrical shows and singalong with our Musical Martians.

Travel to Planet ‘Frozen’ and blast off with Buzz or perhaps you’d like to zap a few aliens in our ‘Live Space Invaders’ Game, play ‘Whack-a-Clanger’ or work your way around the space hopper obstacle course! Also on offer, a children’s space activity zone with face painting, a space themed photo-booth and general cosmic fun. We need lots of stars to help take us to new galaxies, so join us between 10-12 on Friday, 29th July in Millennium Square. Audience members young and old are encouraged to join in with the fun as fancy dress is encouraged. Recommended age: up to 6 years.
