‘Gagarine is a pure delight; this story of a star-gazing teen fighting to save his Paris housing project home from demolition would have been likely to become a word-of-mouth sensation if it had debuted, as planned, at Cannes last year.' - Guy Lodge, The Guardian

‘A wondrous debut feature that derives such a crackle of authenticity from the physical reality of its setting that its starry-eyed metaphysics seem uncannily plausible too.’ - Jessica Kiang, Variety

French directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh have based their outstanding debut around a real event. Gagarine was a Paris housing project that was demolished in 2019. Youri is a 16-year-old who has lived there all his life and who dreams not only escaping of Gagarine but of becoming a cosmonaut and heading for the stars. Maybe he can face off the demolition of his home on the way... The film effortlessly transcends the downbeat, social realist story you might expect with a warm and gentle fantasy of Spielbergian wonder.
