“Kurdwin Ayub’s vibrant feature is plugged directly into the modern Viennese diaspora, attempting to reframe the adolescent Muslim experience”
- Nikki Baughan, Screen Daily

Winner of the GWFF Best First Feature Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, Kurdwin Ayub’s energetic debut looks at three young people caught between social media, cultural heritage and self-discovery.

When three best friends, Yesmin, Nati and Bella film themselves dancing and singing to a classic 90’s pop song wearing Hijabs, they unexpectedly become viral sensations overnight, especially within the Kurdish Muslim community. Although Yesmin at first enjoys her brush with fame she soon becomes frustrated with the increasing distance she feels with her own culture while her non-Muslim friends quickly begin to co-opt elements of it for themselves. Struggling to keep hold of her own, already fragile, sense of self, Yesmin must figure out whether it’s time to stop going with the flow and try to figure out what it is that she actually wants.
