King Vidor’s silent classic The Crowd is a landmark in realist filmmaking and a lacerating critique of the American dream. John Sims is a young man who travels to New York City in search of his fortune but ends up as a corporate drone in the cavernous empire of the Atlas Insurance Company. He falls in love with a beautiful young woman and they get married and have kids, but then tragedy strikes and everything starts to fall apart. Presented by Opera North with a live accompaniment by pianist Matthew Bourne.
