Screening in a new digital transfer as part of BFI Thriller on Tour, Jonathan Demme's masterful film version of Thomas Harris' novel won all five major Oscars in 1992. FBI newbie Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) is assigned to interview notorious psychopath Hannibal Lector in high security jail, in the hope that he will reveal how to catch fellow murderer Buffalo Bill. Lector knows it all, but chooses to toy with Starling by exposing her deepest anxieties. Twenty six years since it changed what was acceptable in popular cinema, The Silence of the Lambs remains an intricate masterclass of escalating pace, terrific performances and unforgettable menace.

Part of BFI Thriller on Tour presented by the Independent Cinema Office. Also screening as part of the tour at LIFF 2017 are: The Headless Woman, In the Cut, Mother, The Vanishing and The Wages of Fear.
