Her naturalistic style unsparingly depicted social issues of the day: poverty, slum housing, child welfare. Tudor-Hart was also a Communist sympathiser and spy for the Soviet Union and was instrumental in recruiting Kim Philby before becoming one of the architects of the Cambridge Five, the Soviet Union’s most successful spy ring in Great Britain.
