4. LIFF Presents: Tales of Our City

Our fourth programme is a 70-minute selection of 11 short films celebrating the city where we live, love, lose and laugh together. Affectionately local, unapologetically political, happily confrontational, compassionately creative, deeply supportive, loving, these insightful and warming films represent everything that makes the city of Leeds what it is - a community of individual personalities, coming together to present their stories, which become part of our own. This selection features a collaboration of chip shop owners, boxers, knitters, actors, poets, Seagulls…

3. LIFF Presents: The Reinvention of Normal

Our third programme is an 80-minute selection of 12 short films from previous editions of Leeds International Film Festival, inspired by themes of new beginnings, changing perspectives and re-imagining the world around you. Whilst some characters are experiencing the world for the very first time, others show endless creativity by transforming, upcycling and re-inventing their surroundings. We hope these curious creatures, spiritual healers and wacky inventors will inspire you to see the world with fresh eyes once the lockdown is over.

2. LIFF Presents: Keep Calm and Fanomenon

LIFF Presents a selection of 9 comedy-horror short films, all audience favourites from the last ten years of our Fanomenon programme section, inspired by themes of being trapped indoors, finding yourself in an unfamiliar situation or dealing with the unknown.

Keep Calm and Fanomenon includes: Reece Shearsmith as an agoraphobic serial killer with a nosy neighbour in Him Indoors; Clanker Man about a beleaguered council worker trying to hold the fabric of reality together in the face of staff shortages; Brutal Relax, a hilariously gory romp about a recovering psychopath whose holiday is rudely interrupted; and Hand in Hand, a warning against excessive handshaking.

1. LIFF Presents: Stay Home Shorts

Our first programme is an 80-minute selection of 9 short films from previous editions of Leeds International Film Festival, all former LIFF audience favourites and mainly animations, plus two musical interludes and one Yorkshire treat.

Featuring many award-winners like Oscar-nominated Head Over Heels and The House of Small Cubes, the selected shorts relate to themes of staying home and social distancing: they include a character who has to keep 91cm apart from himself, a secret kitchen concert, and a surprise hamster neighbour...
