Earn an Arts Award at home with Leeds Young Film Festival!

As the Film Festival is taking place online this year and we are unable to bring you our usual selection of workshops, masterclasses and special events, we wanted to ensure that there were still activities that you could do at home, away from screens and together as a family.

We have partnered with IVE, the Arts Council bridge organisation for Yorkshire and Humber, to offer Arts Award Discover at Home.

What is Arts Award Discover at Home?

Arts Award Discover at Home is a project for families with children aged 5-11 years, where they can complete exciting, engaging and easy creative activities at home and get an Arts Award Discover certificate. With easy to follow guidance and lots of suggestions for arts, craft and creative activities, Discover at Home is perfect for parents and carers who may not be arts specialists themselves and are looking for something different to keep children entertained.

While you can complete your Arts Award on any artform or creative activity, we have provided a specially adapted version for the Leeds Young Film Festival programme, which focuses on film, animation and the moving image.

How Does it Work?

The Arts Award is split into three parts:

  • Discover - where you complete a creative activity to an artform that you are inspired by
  • Find Out - where you find out about an artist or artists
  • Share - share what you have enjoyed and learnt as part of your Arts Award Discover at Home

As part of their Discover at Home journey, children complete all three parts of the Discover at Home logbook to record what they’ve done, enjoyed and learned. To guide you through the process download the interactive online PDF logbook and then follow the steps laid out on each page.

Begin by looking through the logbook with your child and talk about the different parts they need to complete with your help – this is a good opportunity to ask them what kind of art forms they are interested in exploring and what they’d like to find out more about.

Parents and carers can download a detailed guide for more tips and information and how to complete our Arts Award Discover at Home Logbook.

Submitting the Logbook

You can complete the logbook online - it is interactive so you can type straight into it and upload images or photos. If you are unable to complete the online version you can print out the logbook and fill it in manually, however it will still need to be submitted by email - see below.

Once the logbook is complete, and if you would like your child to receive their own Discover at Home certificate, simply email the finished version by 30 April 2021 to isabelle@weareive.org where it will be moderated. Please make sure you include your home address where you want the certificate sending in the body of your email.

Due to our offices currently being closed we are unable to accept any hard copies of the logbook for moderation. If you have completed a physical logbook, please take photos of the pages and any supporting evidence and email these to isabelle@weareive.org instead. Please ensure that the writing is clear and legible in the photos.

There is normally a £5 fee for moderation and the certificate, however we have arranged with IVE for the first 100 submissions to be completely FREE for children living in Yorkshire and the Humber.
