LIFF 2019 hosts two new courses for people working in the film industry created by TaylorKerek with support from ScreenSkills.

The courses address skills shortages identified by the BFI’s Skills Audit of the UK Film and Screen Industries and are designed to develop and advance individuals already working in the UK’s film industry regardless of their background.

Each course runs from 10am to 4pm on separate days at Leeds Town Hall during LIFF 2019. The fee for each course is £25 full price and a reduced price is also available.

Introduction to Leadership for Filmmakers: 18th November

This course aims to tackle the lack of structured leadership and management training within the film industry, where many new leaders are expected to ‘pick it up on the job’. Much of the available training is too generic for those in the film sector, without an understanding of the industry’s context and unique characteristics.

This one day practical leadership course, specifically for anyone in the film industry who is in any sort of leadership role or those would like to move into a more managerial position, will help you consider your leadership skills beforehand, take you through key skills and enrole you into a small group of peers to offer support afterwards.

This course is led by Iain Tweedale who has over 30 years experience in the media and communications sector with senior leadership and management roles in the BBC and IBM.

Marketing Via Social Media For Film & Filmmakers: 19th November

Much digital marketing today relies on social media activity to reach out to specific audiences with key information about people, projects, companies and campaigns. This course will equip attendees, who are already working in the film industry, with the knowledge and strategic thinking to start using social media with specific aims. That may be working in a professional capacity for a production company, running a campaign or simply promoting their own professional and creative life online.

Each attendee will be taken through the elements required for a successful social media marketing plan, with a practical exercise to put their own plan together during the course.

This course is led by Rowan Kerek Robertson who is a social media and digital communications expert, producer, consultant and trainer. She is the former Head of Social Media for BBC Television, with nearly 20 years experience in professional social media production, now running her own company from Bristol.
