If you're 16-19 years old (or up to 25 with an EHC Plan or equivalent), and interested in the creative, technical or business side of film and television, you could be part of BFI Film Academy Yorkshire & The Humber, delivered by Leeds Young Film in partnership with Showroom Cinema. We connect young people aged 16-25 looking to get started in the film and TV industry with training opportunities, industry connections and career support.
Our BFI Film Academy Introductory Courses in Leeds & Bradford offer you a hands-on, collaborative filmmaking experience. You'll have fun with filmmaking processes, meet like-minded people and gain confidence as you learn from expert industry mentors and filmmakers to work as part of a short film crew with training for all the roles involved in filmmaking. You will be making a short film from start to finish, including writing, producing, editing and presenting your work on the big screen.
No experience needed and it's free to take part (with bursaries for travel and childcare available).
BFI Film Academy Yorkshire and the Humber is delivered by Leeds Young Film supported by the UK Government and National Lottery funding.

Course Accessibility
The BFI Film Academy encourages young people from all backgrounds and abilities to apply.
The course is available for those 16-19 years old (or up to 25 with an EHC Plan or equivalent).

Costs
Introductory courses are free, however there are bursaries available if child care/travel costs are an issue.

The BFI Film Academy Introductory Courses contributes to a core aim of the BFI’s 2033 strategy which aims to provide everyone with the opportunity to build a lifelong relationship with film; to create clear progression paths for talented young people and to ensure that film is celebrated and explored in formal education. The BFI Film Academy Introductory Courses are supported by the UK government and National Lottery funding.
