LIFF recognised by the British Documentary Awards

LIFF is now an officially recognised film festival for the British Documentary Awards, also known as the Grierson Awards.

Established in 1972, the Griersons are the biggest event in the UK documentary calendar. The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.

Documentary features and shorts that screen as part of the official Leeds International Film Festival programme are now eligible to submit their film to the Grierson Awards, across 16 categories.

The Grierson Awards 2026 are currently accepting submissions, open to UK and international productions. Eligible films must have had their first UK screening between 1 June 2025 and 31 May 2026. The deadline to apply is May 22.

The 2026 Grierson Awards will take place on November 10 at the Roundhouse music and arts venue in London.
