Movie Club

At Leeds Young Film Festival, we want young people to films, not just by watching them, but also by getting hands on and making their own movies. And we know filmmaking opportunties for young people can be hard to find, so we created our own! Movie Club is all about giving 8–13 year olds some fun, practical skills to help grow their interests and spark new ideas whether they’re making a short film, a YouTube video, or content for TikTok.

Each year we create new, family-friendly workshops led by industry professionals, that cover a variety of skills including directing, sound design, visual effects, costume, makeup and prosthetics, often partnering with film organisations such as Screen Yorkshire. Every session is practical, fun, and designed to spark some new ideas in an environment with other young people interested in filmmaking.

These workshops are for young people only, so parents can leave their children with our team of trained staff and come back at the end of the day or session to hear all about what they have learned.

Movie Club takes place across a few days during the film festival, and will return in Easter 2026.
