Chris Fell

Festival Director, Leeds International Film Festival

Chris discovered world cinema as a volunteer at Bradford Playhouse & Film Theatre in 1992 and he soon started working for the venue and helped to organise the first edition of Bradford International Film Festival (BIFF) in 1994. Chris became Cinema and Festivals Programmer at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford (now the National Science and Media Museum) and continued to work on BIFF as well as other film festivals at the Museum including Bite the Mango and BAF! (Bradford Animation Festival). Chris has been Director of Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF) since 1999. Inspired early on as a cinema volunteer, Chris has wanted to share with audiences through festivals the films and filmmakers they may not be able to access and discover otherwise, and to help more people to access opportunities in film. Chris’ favourite filmmakers include Krzysztof Kieślowski whose films were the first he saw at BP&FT and Yasujirō Ozu whose films he returns to the most.
