A princess defies her father’s wishes in this boldly original retelling of Charles Perrault’s fairytale Donkeyskin.

When his wife dies, the King decides to outlaw love. But when his daughter falls for a merchant, only magic can help her be with the one she loves. Chilean filmmakers Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña blend their animation expertise into live action to create a shape-shifting visual feast. Donkey Princess is a truly unique work that is often magical but never shies away from the darkness of the original tale.

"The Chilean duo’s latest only further establishes them as some of the most exciting makers of tangible, macabre visions on the world’s stage." — Josh Slater-Williams, IndieWire
