Master

Master is a sly and gripping political drama from Bangladesh, brilliantly dramatising the subtle, corrupting influences of power.

Jahir, a provincial high school history teacher, is a pillar of the community engaged in a crusading liberal campaign for a mayoral election, championing education and women's rights. He may be a shoe in for victory, but he is unprepared for the compromises of power, controlling bureaucrats and pressure from the criminal underworld.

"Gripping Bangladeshi drama... it's an eye-opening look at institutional structures in a country that rarely gets much screen time internationally, and a timeworn tale designed to rouse rage against the machine in local and global audiences alike." — Guy Lodge, Variety
