The Education of Jane Cumming

A powerful historical drama based on a real libel case from 19th Century Scotland, The Education of Jane Cumming interrogates the entrenched societal homophobia of the colonial era.

Teachers Jane Pirie and Marianne Woods run a boarding school. Their lives are changed forever when a wealthy aristocrat enrols Jane, her 'illegitimate' 15-year-old grandchild from India, who makes a scandalous accusation: that Miss Pirie and Miss Woods are lovers.

"This is a richly textured, thought-provoking period drama and queer coming-of-age story that does justice to the real-life character of Jane, finally giving her a long-overdue place at the center of her own story." — Matthew Turner, Next Best Picture
