We're keeping you updated with a guide to the latest as they become available, also including selections that have featured in our LIFF Presents programme of year-round screenings...

Our latest highlighted LIFF 2019 Film Now Streaming is Family Romance, LLC, Werner Herzog’s new documentary exploring Japan's rent-a-family service...

Werner Herzog travels to Japan for his latest film, a subtle reinvention of his unique style of direct documentary filmmaking. His co-conspirator and star is Yuichi Ishii, the real-life CEO of Family Romance LLC, a company that rents out human surrogates for his clients’ every need—a family member for a social event, someone to take the blame for a mistake at work, a stranger to help you relive the best moment of your life. The interaction of performance, artifice and genuine emotional depth makes a profound and fascinating film.

'Part travelogue, part incisive investigation into the problem of loneliness, this film is entirely fascinating.' Sight & Sound review by Katherine McLaughlin

Family Romance LLC is free to view on Friday 3 July on MUBI and Curzon Home Cinema, and is available to rent online through Modern Films, giving you the option to support independent cinemas including The Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds, who receive a split of the revenue when you make your purchase.
