LIFF Presents, our year-round programme of special previews and special film selections curated by Leeds International Film Festival, brings you two unique and original new sci-fi features on Thursday 13 February at Vue in The Light.

Color Out Of Space (8.15pm)
2020 | Malaysia, Portugal, USA | Dir: Richard Stanley | 1hr 51min | 15

In director Richard Stanley's eerie adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's classic horror short story, a meteor from outer space lands on the property of a New England family - its increasingly unhinged patriarch played by the one-and-only Nicolas Cage - with delirious and psychedelic results. After the meteor falls to earth, a malignant force begins to insidiously permeate the lives of an unassuming family. The effects are gradual — time begins to dilate, nature assumes an otherworldly hue — and all things bright and beautiful eventually mutate and corrupt under its influence.

Little Joe (6pm)

2019 | UK, Austria, Germany | Dir. Jessica Hausner | 1hr 45min | 12A

Alice, a single mother, is a dedicated senior plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a very special crimson flower, remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value: if kept at the ideal temperature, fed properly and spoken to regularly, this plant makes its owner happy. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her teenage son, Joe. They christen it ‘Little Joe’ but as it grows, so too does Alice’s suspicion that her new creations may not be as harmless as their nickname suggests. From Austrian writer / director Jessica Hausner, Little Joe stars Emily Beecham, Ben Whishaw, Kerry Fox and Kit Connor.
